The Maya Unlimited 3D software from Autodesk is not only the industry standard these days but increasingly popular and available to students, educators, faculty staff, and institutions.
There are significant Maya student discounts (over 90%) and savings to be had, not only on the student version itself, but also on the full commercial version later on.
Maya Student Discounts – How much?
For individuals there are generally 2 different price points depending on the license you want to purchase – a 14 month license being just shy of $200 and a perpetual license at just under $400. It obviously depends on your current situation but the longer perpetual license works out at far better value. However, the 14 month license might be right for you if you’re in your final year at college and only require it for that year.
What Autodesk have also done now with their Maya Student Edition is bundle it with a bunch of other high-end animation, modelling and compositing softwares, and this is known as the “Maya Student Edition Superpack“.
The Superpack is pretty much a complete suite of tools and comes with student versions of Motionbuilder (animation), Mudbox (organic modelling tool), and Toxik (compositing). Since Autodesk has been buying up a lot of other 3d software companies recently, it is good to see that they are passing the benefits of this on to students and educators in the form of great student discounts on other software packages. The Maya Student Edition Superpack is the same price as the Maya student version on its own (i.e. $200 or $400), so this is really great value and a massive discount.
Note however, that the Superpack softwares are PC based and will not work on a Mac…the Maya student edition comes in a PC or Mac version however so that’s good.
Maya Student Discounts On Commercial Upgrade
So, not only do students get great discounts on the Maya educational version, but they also qualify for a large discount on the commercial version if they choose to upgrade at a later date. This student discount can often reduce the price for the Maya Unlimited commercial version from around $6000 to about $2500 – which is over 50% off and even cheaper than buying Maya Complete.
